Meran’s Christmas children program
Children have always been extremely important to us and, throughout the years, we have regularly added new attractions especially for them.
The “Little Star Club” will joyfully welcome children aged three to eight to entertain them and play games in the biscuit bakery, while parents can enjoy their Christmas shopping. Outdoors, you will find two mini-trains going around the Christmas Market. There is a big ice skating court in ‘piazza delle Terme’, right in front of Meran’s famous thermal baths. A number of exciting events take place here besides the regular public ice skating activity. The sounds and colours of the nearby merry-go-round - a vintage jewel -bring a note of nostalgia. A towering Christmas tree stands right in the middle, surrounded by the characters of the big Nativity scene, kindly offered by the German Christmas Factory - Käthe Wohlfart.
The atmosphere of a mountain hut is recreated, complete with animals that you can cuddle … a storyteller brings children into the Christmas magic in the nearby ‘fairy-tales wood’.
You will of course find plenty of delicacies and tasters for children and grown ups!
Every day at 16:45 one of the windows of the gigantic Advent calendar will be opened in Piazza Duomo, near the Christmas Market.
On December 5th and 6th according to the South Tyrolean tradition, children will get a chance to meet Nicolo’, patron Saint of Merano, together with his faithful assistant Knecht Ruprecht . The Saint will distribute sweets while Knecht Ruprecht will be giving out whips and coal for all the bad boys and girls.
And an other sensation will surprise visitors… the Ritter Sport Chocolate Factory will be in ‘Piazza della Rena’ from December 8th until the 15th. Children aged 6 to 16 will be able to create their own Ritter Sport chocolate bar and experiment with various flavour combinations and fancy wrappings. Every day from 9 a.m. to 17 p.m.
